Jacob Linn Brings Coaching Expertise to Logan’s Master of Science in Strength and Conditioning Program

Jacob Linn, MED, CSCS, PN1 has brought his extensive background in collegiate athletics to Logan University’s Master of Science in Strength and Conditioning (MS-SC) program. He recently joined the program’s faculty teaching the applied lab course that is required for students. This course uses video to evaluate the student skillsets in the program, allowing for feedback.

“This course is so great for students in the program because we really get creative in how we teach and assess skills,” Jacob says. “Students are also able to receive personalized feedback and use the video submissions to build their portfolio with best practices and educational content. They really benefit from the program’s structured framework.”

Jacob’s coaching experience began after graduating with an undergraduate degree in exercise science and kinesiology from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. He began coaching at the Haskell Indian Nations University where he was responsible for all the strength and conditioning aspects for each sporting team at the university.

After moving to Columbia, Missouri, he joined the University of Missouri’s (Mizzou) strength and conditioning team as a graduate assistant, working closely with many sports, including football, baseball, swimming and golf. He then transitioned his experience to Mizzou’s women’s basketball team where he served as director of athletic performance. In this role, Jacob worked with the athletes to improve athletic performance, prepare for games and practices, and work on enhancing power and strength while minimizing injuries.

Additionally, Jacob worked at Mizzou’s Human Performance Institute and Healthcare Center where he was able to apply his skills in coaching, biomechanics, fitness training and strength and conditioning.

Jacob also earned his master’s degree in public health education and promotion from Mizzou and is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

“It’s incredible to see the advances in the strength and conditioning field and how the benefits are piling up as they’re incorporated into more training programs,” Jacob explained. “Avoiding injuries and working with athletes to reach peak potential is both thrilling and necessary.”

Jacob’s new role at Mizzou is in the fitness programming management program, which is under the physical therapy department.

“My goal is to work closely with all of my students, bring along the skills I have gathered, and make a connection to real life. This way they will be well prepared for front-line performance training,” he said.
